SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — April 23, 2023 — Polywell Computers is one of the few hardware manufacturers shipping devices powered by three different CPU brands — Intel, AMD, and ARM. The latter is widely used in several market niches where Polywell Computers is especially competitive: Digital Signage, media players, set-top boxes.
A particular aspect of these markets is the equipment cost sensitivity combined with the high requirements for fault tolerance. The new approach to filling the gap between these contradictory demands is our new Polywell X58-IN system, based on the Rockchip X3588S chipset.
The system is powered by a dual-cluster core combination of ARM® Cortex®-A76 4Core 64-bit CPU and ARM® Cortex®-A55 4Core 64-bit CPU. X3588S itself is a bright implementation of ARM's concept named big.LITTLE DynamIQ technology, meaning heterogeneous processing architecture that uses two types of processor. "LITTLE" processors are designed for maximum power efficiency while "big" processors are designed to provide maximum compute performance.
The system also has a so called AI Accelerator — 6 TOPS NPU 3.0 (Neural Processing Unit). Compared to the full-spec Rockchip 3588 chipset, 3588S has slightly less interfaces. But taking into consideration the price difference against RK3588, Rockchip RK3588S may become more popular since many projects will not make full use of all RK3588 interfaces.
The system may be delivered with either 4 or 8 Gb built-in non-interchangeable LPDDR4 (low power DDR4) memory.
Polywell X58-IN is equipped with ARM® Mali™-G610 MP4 4Core Graphics Processor. It's capable of delivering 8K@60fps on 2 x HDMI ports. The system has one HDMI-IN interface which opens new possibilities for traditional Digital Signage and similar applications. For example, it's possible to mix real-time streams from TV and other sources to the Digital Signage broadcasting.
The system has one 1000 Mb/s Ethernet adapter. It has 802.11ax/ac/n/g Wi-Fi adapter with Bluetooth 4.0. Besides that, it may also have an optional M.2 3042 socket for 5G/4G LTE module paired with SIM card.
Polywell X58-IN may have either 32GB or 64GB eMMC flash internal storage. As an option 64GB/128GB eMMC 5.1 storage may be installed.
The system is fanless, which not only enables noiseless operation and low power consumption, but also enables its work in dusty environments including conductive dust. It may be delivered with Android 12 OS or with Linux. The chassis is relatively small: just 125 mm (W) x 112 mm (D) x 30 mm (H), the weight is 680 grams only.
No doubt this hardware-state-of-the-art feature-rich and cost-effective device will let software architects and developers create new demanding applications as well as to port x86 based applications to Android platform.
We'd like to attract your attention to the ability of ordering the test drive of any of our systems by just filling the form in any model page — see 'Test drive' tab.
