Updated xDIM Mobile adds large box dimensioning capabilities to speed parcel processing and reduce costs
First of its kind mobile solution for accurately dimensioning large boxes to reduce extra shipping charges.
Cedar Rapids, IA, USA — May 10, 2022 — Large box dimensioning just got easier. MobileDemand announces that the award-winning xDIM Mobile Dimensioning, powered by 4DMobile, has added the next step in large box dimensioning. xDIM Mobile Dimensioning is a box measurement system utilizing an Intel® RealSense™ camera on rugged tablets used by workers in warehousing and supply chain environments. The xDIM Mobile Dimensioning solution can now accurately measure the largest box dimensions up to 7-8 feet including 80-inch large screen TVs, refrigerators, washers, dryers and furniture.
"The global supply chain can benefit from a modern, accurate new way to measure," said Matt Miller, president and chief technology officer of 4DMobile and MobileDemand. "Our 2022 Edison-award-winning mobile dimensioning system is a five-year product of our team's innovation, creativity, and ingenuity. xDIM Mobile is the first and only patented mobile dimensioning solution for small and large box dimensioning."
The mobile, easy-to-use, point-and-click solution helps companies:
- Gather accurate dimensions and reduce costs by empowering shipping departments to make intelligent decisions on boxes too large for parcel systems that should go as freight. xDIM Mobile Dimensioning helps companies avoid those $1,000+ charges because of inaccurate shipping decisions.
- Increase efficiency by collecting product item information, including dimensions, scale weight, photos, barcode, and RFID data.
- Optimize space by improving space utilization in your distribution centers and truck trailers.
"I've certainly had some dimension headaches in my career so it's good to hear about this solution you are bringing to the market," said Kevin Lawton, host and founder of The New Warehouse. "It's groundbreaking in the sense of the portability, being able to put that 3D camera on a tablet, and really have that flexibility to where you want to use it in operations and easily maneuver it."
xDIM Mobile Dimensioning incorporates a new 2-step "box face" method to measure large boxes up to 7-8 feet and a "corner" method to measure smaller boxes from 3-inches to 48-inches (4-feet). A key feature of the patented corner method is xDIM™ Mobile Dimensioning software, which is certified by NTEP (an independent third-party certification by the National Council of Weights and Measures) as Legal for Trade. The new 2-step "box face" method is expected to be NTEP certified in the second half of 2022.
