Handheld Group, a leading manufacturer of rugged mobile computers, today announced that Myra Long has been promoted to Director of Development. As Director of Development, Long is responsible for managing new product development, integrating improvements for existing products, and verifying build-processes. She is based in St. Petersburg, Fla., USA.
"Myra's technical expertise and systematic approach will be invaluable to Handheld as we continue to broaden our product portfolio with new and innovative rugged mobile computers, and as we bring these new products to market," says Jerker Hellström, CEO of Handheld Group. "Along with the rest of our product development team, Myra will use her development experience as well as feedback from her customer-facing colleagues to help us track industry trends and new technologies in order to remain highly competitive."
Long started with Handheld Group in a project management consultant role in 2011 and officially joined the Handheld team as a program manager in 2014. She brings expertise in military and mobile product research, development and management from Lockheed Martin, Oregon State University, SRI International and Hewlett Packard.
"I'm eager to help shape Handheld's strategic roadmap, ensuring that we maintain our position as a leader in the rugged mobile computing space," Long says. "Overseeing consistency in our development, testing, sampling and quality inspections is integral to developing world-class rugged devices."
Long holds a Master of Science degree in industrial engineering with a focus on information systems from Oregon State University, a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Clarkson University, and a Project Management Professional certification.
Handheld's lineup of rugged tablets, notebooks and handheld computers is specifically developed for field workers in industries such as geomatics, logistics, forestry, public transportation, utilities, construction, maintenance, mining, military and security.
