UK-based DLoG has been making industrial PCs since 1990 and has vast
experience in supplying industrial hardware and software solutions (where
the company specializes on touch screen software interfaces).
The DLoG
XMDA is an attractively styled mobile computer that transcends categories.
It uses a 520MHz Intel XScale PXA270 processor and runs Windows CE 5.0, but
is significantly larger than your average rugged PDA, measuring 10.1 x 5.2 x
1.57 inches and weighing two pounds. It also has much larger screen, a
7-inch QVGA (480 x 234 pixels) color TFT.
There are both SD and CF Card
slots, the unit has both a Symbol short range laser scanner and an Intermec
imager built into its top, and there is USB host/client as well as serial
connectivity. Wireless communication is via a 802.11b CISCO card. Bluetooth,
GSM/GPRS and GPS are available as options. Customers have a choice of either
a 36 Watt-hour Li-Polymer battery good for eight hours, or a smaller 24
Watt-hour unit that lasts six hours.
Sealing is at the IP65 level, operating
temperature -25 to 50 degreees Celsius, and the device can survive four-foot
drops onto concrete. The XMDA is perfect for a new generation of Windows CE
5.0-based applications that require a large display and a rugged case for
operation is demanding environments.
Though it is large for a Win CE device,
it is still small and light enough to be carried around (remember that the
Apple Newton MP2100 was about this size!)
On May 30th 2008 DLoG Ltd officially became part of the Kenard Engineering Group's Software division, alongside Seiki Systems Ltd. DLoG Ltd will continue to supply the same range of hardware and software, and to continue to represent DLoG GmbH in the UK by distributing its range of industrial and vehicle mount computers. However, as of August 2008 we no longer found the XMDA in the product lineup.
